Not to nitpick, but if it's a 1943, it's a 2N. Both 9N (1939-1941) and 2N (1942-1947) had serial numbers that started with "9N". Learn more at Nseries.com and/or Smith's page. Have fun with it!

I visited Nseries.com and I would agree that it indicates 9N's were not produced in 43, except for one little detail. Within YesterdaysTrackers. com listed under Serial Numbers for 9N's it provides 1943 serial numbers beginning 105412 & stamped on the side of my tractors block is the serial number 9N176313. So one of these websites is incorrect and I since my tractors other features are 3 speed, 6 volt elect system, I feel your source is incorrect. Sarge

9N and 2N were both 6 volt with 3 speed transmissions so there isn't any way to tell the difference between a 9N and 2N based solely on the battery and transmission. Every source I've looked at regarding serial numbers says the 9N was produced up through serial number 99002 or 99003 (I forget which) afterwhich the tractors were considered 2N tractors even though the serial number starts with "9N" all the way to the end of 2N production in 1947.
