Howdy. I had a fella try and tell me my 1943 9N was actually a 2N cause Ford/Ferg didn't produce 9N's in 1943 and he invited me to visit Nseries. com. Well, according to that sight 9N's ended in 1942 at serial number 99002. But, alas on this website, 9N's were produced in 1943 beginning with serial number 105412. Does anybody really know where each model begins and ends. The guy I both mine from said it was a 43 and I suspect its a 9N cause the serial number is 9N176313 which is bordered with "stars" (Steel Sleeves), its got a 3 speed and 6 volt electric system. Everything else looks like a 9N, but this is my first tractor and I've only had it for a week. SARGE

Sarge,I have a FO-4 manual that shows the 9N began production in 1942 with serial number 88934. The production of the 2N began in 1942 with serial number 99047. According to the serial number you provided your tractor was produced in 1945 which would make it a 2N.
Welcome to the world of N's.
Happy Motoring

Your friend is right. He's just not complete in his explanation. The 2N started in 1942 but the serial number still starts with "9N". Why? Only Henry knows. If your 2N still has the original hood badge, look closely and you might be able to see a small "2N" stamped under the "Ford" logo. Here's another site to expain the differences from year to year
