I just converted my 2000 from 6 to 12 volts. I installed an alternator and wired it according to the instructions. It started, ran good, charged as it should. I shut it off and now pushing down the starter does nothing. The ammeter shows discharge when the switch is on but nothing when the starter is depressed. What happened?

I'll take a guess: You forgot to change the starter relay and perhaps you burned it out? I don't know if they are voltage sensitive or not, or whether you have to reverse the contacts, etc.
