I have an 861 ford which runs rich, carbon fouls plugs, and lets out a backfire when the key is turned off. I have the carb. apart and have noted the following; The venturi tube can be installed either ditection. Is it supposed to go through the gasket or be in the upper half of the carb only ? Also the throttle shaft is very loose in the hole on the linkage end. Would this cause a problem. The carb is clean and has a new rebuild kit. Thanks for any help.

The large end of the venturi tube goes on top, the bottom of the venturi goes thru the gasket and in to the bottom of the carb. If your throttle shaft is leaking air you will not be able to adjust the carb. properly. Dave.
