Well finally a fatal blow happenned to the SOS 3000 I have. I was doing some box blading when I noticed I was dripping some major oil from the bellhousing area. There is a small hole on the bottom that was leaking a 1/4 inch stream of tranny oil, and there were some new leaks by the starter and hydraulic pump that weren't there before. I shut it down and got the drain pans.

I looked through the archives, found out these seals should be loctited in place, but no other info. Am I correct in assuming the front seal on the transmission went?

How long should this job take a halfway competent tractor mechanic?(I can do a 8N clutch in about half a day, counting breaks and goofing around..)Anything else I should do while I'm in there?

Thanks for the help!

check the input shaft splines. that is a weak a weak spot on these transmitions. the splines that go into the torque limiting clutch.

I am not sure about the possible differences in the model number, but I had to replace the front seal on my SOS transmission. I had to remove the engine, and then the 4 bolts that hold the oil pump on. pop out the old seal, press in the new. I did the rear main and front main also, as they were shot as well.

I would change the 2 frost plugs in the back of the block & the one in the back of the head. Consider a new rear main crank seal, too. Can't help w/ SOS issues; haven't had the pleasure, yet anyway.
