THE RUN DOWN. The tractor is all original never been repainted and one owner. Body in good shape only surface rust. Brakes good no oil leaks at the hubs. Started on the first key bump (no smoke)and purred like a kitten. One rear tire good the rest 30%. Rear end had a little "play" when the tire was pushed in toward the axle, both sides. The steering was tight. The tractor mechanically was sound but cosmetically poor. The auction price started at $1000 and ended at $3100. Too high for me! Ho one last thing a Dearborn buzz saw with belt and pulley went for $250

Right on target for a good all-original Jubilee. The rough one's bring mid $2000 everyday here in the Cornbelt-Mi

Check the block for cracks above the oil filter between the two core plugs. This is the likely place the block will crack if the coolant has been frozen. Look closely, it is easy to hide a crack with paint. Good luck.

I would bring along a compression tester. Factory specs are about 125 psi. Look for at least around 100 psi per cylinder and not more than about 10 psi difference between cylinders. I would also hook up the tractor to an implement like a mower or brush hog and run it under load for a good 20 minutes to let it reach full operating temperature. I have seen alot of postings on this website about tractors that run great until they warm up and then they have problems when trying to work under load. Usually its a fuel flow or electrical problem.

I bought a very nice looking Jubilee once and found a number of underlying problems, none of which were life threatening. (1) Check the side to side wobble of the tractor by pushing on the rear tires. A lot of slop there indicates worn hub/shaft splines. Not a hard repair job, but about $400 in parts if you replace the shafts, hubs, and seals. I tried to get away with only replacing the hubs at first. It was considerably better, but I eventually replaced the shafts when later replacing the brakes. (2) Excessive play in the front end spindle column is not expensive to repair, but it takes some time to fit new bushings. These are about $25 per side, including thrust bearings. (3) The battery box may have rotted out. Again not too expensive nor hard to swap.

I have never had any hydraulic problems with it, so I have nothing to offer there.

Good Luck,
MIke
