I have a 801 ford and the tractor runs good except for the exhaust is heating up and I mean hot. It is getting so hot that intake is heating up and it will also boil the gas in the tank if you run it long enough. I have been thru valves and timing over and over. Any suggestions? I am out of ideas.

Read many comments on timeing and valves! I am assuming you have checked for proper water flow through the block ...NO restrictions??

The radiator should be hot if water is flowing through? Do the hoses feel HOT ...Watch the fan!!

The temp is running around 170 all the time where else would I check restriction?

Won't You come home, Bill Bailey?? Seriously, I had the identical problem with my 850, and after it chewed at me awhile, I figured it out on a hunch. Here's your problem (I hope): Take off your distributor cap. Take off the points, rotor, condenser, etc. Now take off the mounting plate for the points. Here lies the probable cause: check that the advance weights are free and not frozen up; If so,work them free with bust-rust and clean them up. Now put her together, and she'll run like a top. When I gave mine little more than an idle, the manifold got red; now she's fine. NOTE: running hot like that will warp your head, and burn your valves. Happy Motoring..... ...

Good advice from Don. My first thought upon reading Bill's post was retarded ignition timing. Confirm this with a timing light.

How hot is hot? Are the heat shields still in place between the tank & manifold?
