What would be the cause of a 4000 fouling only the #1 plug.I checked the compression and it is around 140 on all 3 cyclinders.

It runs fine till you idle it down and then it goes to missing and when you pull the plugs two are clean and white but the first one is solid black. I have changed the plugs three times and it does the same thing.

Try giving it a basic tune up Besides fresh plugs try wires, cap, rotor points and condenser to eliminate a possible missfire at low idle you would have to put it on a scope to see what exactly is it doing. But with these other parts you will still be cheaper than taking it in.

Poor ways! but process of elimination!
