I am getting what looks like trans/ hydraulic oil
coming out of of the steering wheel tube just
under the steering wheel. It comes out at a fast drip. I just refilled the system after working on the PTO shaft. Oil level checks OK. Any Ideas?

I have seen this countless times! Typical for PS gearbox leak.

First try tugging on your steering wheel up and down. If it is tight with no real end play I would it more than likley the steering shaft seal at the base of the tube. Remove steering wheel, hood, dash and console and fuel tank.

remove the four bolts holding the tube to the control valve. Inspect seal in the tube for hardness or missing skirt spring and inspect the steering shaft for wear at sealing point. I thier is any ruffness You can R&R the shaft by getting the demension from a non wear place on said shaft and going to your local auto parts store and get a speedi-sleave I think .471-.473 is the I.D. by 5/8" tall.

Put some gasket elimnator on the sleeve and install onto shaft. You should get a piece of 1/2" ID pipe about 2.5 feet long to help you install the sleeve.

Remember as the service manual says "assembly is the reverse of disassembly"

THATS NOT TRANS OIL COMOING OUT OF THE STEERING TUBE ITS POWER STEARING FLUID. KEEP YOUR POWER STEARING RESAVOR FULL AND IT WILL SLOW DOWN THE LEAK. I HAVE TO WRAP RAGS AROUND MINE SO IT WILL NOT SPRAY ME.

Same thing happened to me when I put power steering fluid in my 70 3400. After using it for about an hour,I noticed it coming out. Started reading up on it and found it should have hydraulic fluid. Changed fluid and it hasn't done it since. there is another older post on this about bearings in the column and the steering wheel moving up if you turn it in one direction. Hope this helps you out.
