The 2 stage clutch couldn't ever be "added on" to the 4 speed transmission. The hundred series live PTO setup took power from the double clutch on concentric input shafts with one geared to the transmission drive and the other to the PTO. On the 4 speed, the transmission countershaft is directly connected to the PTO.

What is the difference between a Jubile and an 8N? A friend of mine has a 53 Jubilee (a year newer than my 8N) I believe the tractor has a 4 speed transmission. And he told me it has a 2 stage clutch that was an add in unit that his father had installed on the tractor by the Ford dealer. I am not really familair with Fords, and I am just going on what he told me.

A Jubilee has a 134 ci OHV engine instead of the 119 ci flathead, and the hydraulic pump bolts to the engine so you get live hydraulics. This will bolt up to the flywheel and transmission for the 2 stage clutch. But the 2 stage clutch still won't work with the 4 speed.

There was an option for live PTO on the Jubilee based on a slightly different principle. They stuck a hydraulically operated clutch pack in the rear end so you could shut down the drive wheels with it and still keep the PTO going. But you can't get parts for this unit, so you probably wouldn't want to actually use it. We heard from somebody last year who said he had an 8N with a similar mechanically actuated unit, but this is so rare that it was either hand made or very low production (or vaporware).

Finally, the "distinctive" sheet metal of the Jubilee (nose emblem, etc) was actually produced with relatively small changes throughout the hundred series production ending in 1962. Sometimes a tractor called a "Jubilee" is actually a later tractor with similar sheet metal. Check the model and serial number for identification if there is any doubt.

Checked out neighbor's 53 Jubilee. It is not a 2 stage clutch. It apparrently has the live pto option that you described. He said that his father had it installed by the Ford dealer sometime after they bought the tractor.
