I've been looking for a replacement engine for my 1967 Ford 4000. It currently has the origional 3-cylinder, 192 c.i.d. gas engine in it. I've found someone who says he has a 201 c.i.d. three cylinder gas engine out of a 1975 Ford 4000 for sale. Looking through my service manual, that I bought from Ford/New Holland, it says that the 201 c.i.d. engine is a DIESIL engine and not a GAS engine. I called this person back and he said that the what he told me about the engine is correct. So my question is, did Ford make a 201 c.i.d. three cylinder gas engine? And will it bolt straight in as a replacement for my 192 c.i.d. engine. Thanks, Rory.

Rory,
4000's after 1968 were equipped with a either a 201 ci diesel or gasoline engine. Check out the 4000 brochure on Oaktree.

Danny is right, the 6Y (1968-1975) gas engine in the 4000 is a 201 inch engine with the same bore and stroke as the diesel engine and should bolt up to your tractor. Its all in the new Ford book by Stuart Gibbard ("the ford tractor story- part 2)

The person who told me the info. about the supposed 201 c.i.d. GAS engine works at a tractor salvage yard in Texas that "Specializes in Ford parts only" and is the largest in the nation for supplying Ford farm tractor parts. I was origionally thinking that even though he works at this Ford only salvage yard that he had the gas and diesel engines confused. What you guys have said removes any doubt that I had. So does anyone know where I can get a 192 c.i.d. GAS engine for a Ford 4000? Thanks for the info, Rory.

I can find no mention anywhere of a 201 CID gas engine. I'd say this guy is yanking your chain.
