What oil should I use for the Select-O-Speed transmission? Are there any tricks I should know before I change it? How frequently should I change it? In an earlier post someone suggested the bands require periodic adjustment. How often? Thanks for any help.

Jim

Depending on the year of your trans, the oil is drained through either a drain plug on the bottom of the case (later models) or through the suction screen at the bottom side of the case (earlier models). See a repair manual for a picture and the procedure for this.

The oil is filled through the level plug only. This prevents overfilling. Use NH oil #134D or its equivalent (tractor hydraulic fluid).

Not sure on the band adjustment. Probably every 3-500 hours or so. See the repair manual for the procedures and schedule.

Bern,

I have a 1969 model. Would this model take the fluid you recommended?

Yes, New Holland #134D or its equivalent (tractor hydraulic fluid that meets those Ford/NH specs).
