AJ, I had the same thing happen to me the first of July. The bearings at both the top and bottom of the shaft had fallen apart. I suspect the same thing has happened to you. Mine is manual, but as I remember looking at the parts book, the "guts" of both, which turn the steering arms, are the same. Not a "hard" job, just some nusience factors.... like you have to remove the gas tank, which means you have to remove the "dash", which means you have to disconnect the electric, choke, and tach shaft, and you have to remove the engine hood. Welll... I forgot getting the steering arms off.... THAT was hard!!! I had to use a HEAVY DUTY gear puller. Even then I had to use a vise-grip chain strap wrench around the jaws to keep them from slipping off. BE SURE you preload the new bearings correctly! On my 3000 the "idiot" that repaired it didn't shim it right which I think contributed to the failure. Also, mine did not have the lower bearing retainer which may be why the shimming was wrong. I think you need to spend about $70 and get the Ford Service Manual for the 3000 (has everything in it!), it is a reprint but just like original. You can get it from your FNH dealer or the board sponsors. Where in VA are you? I'm in Flint Hill, VA. just south of Front Royal. Larry
