My 1966 4000 3 cyl. Dsl. is blowing coolent out of the radiator over flow pipe. It does it as soon as the engine is started and still cold. The coolent is brown and foamy. I know it is due for a flush and refill. Do you think it is just a weak cap, stuck thermostat or something else? Engine gets warm, but does not overheat. Do these engines have a cavitation problem that requires a certain anti-freeze? I know that is a problem in some of the newer tractors. Thanks for any help!!

Probably a blown head gasket. Pinholes usually don't get that big, and yours sounds big!

The early model 4000s used a thin head gasket that was prone to failing. The later models ('68 and on) used a thicker gasket that stood up much better. If you find that you have the thin gasket (original engine), only replace it with the thin one, or else you'll never get the thing started in the winter time without ether or a block heater.
