I wrote 3 wks ago about the tractor I found in a shed, and got it for 300.00 dollars. I cleaned the carb, tuned it up to a 12 volt system, & washed the varnish out of the gas tank with paint thinner. Today I put a battery in it, shot some starter fluid in the carb, hit the starter and away she ran. The old battery that was in the tractor was stamped 13 yrs ago, so it had to be sitting for about 11 yrs. Now does the dip stick that is in the rear housing measure all the drive train fluids?

No, the dipstick only tells you the level of the hydraulic fluid. You also have oil in the transmission and the differential. There are level plugs for these compartments (i.e. the level is correct if the oil just starts to come out when the plug is removed).

The owners manual details the locations of the fill and level plugs. Get one.

I agree with Dave M. Get an Owner's manual. Also, get the IT maual. Between both of them (and the Vintage Ford Resource Site) you can learn how to operate the thing. I'm not very mechanically inclined, but with the IT manual, I believe that I can perform basic and intermediate level R&R for most of my 661.
