I have an Uncle with a 4600-SU. What does the SU stand for and how does this tractor differ from a 4600 or even a 3000/3600?

Thanks,
Bill

I was told by a used parts dealer it meant special utility. I don't believe he was right but the letters fit.

I remember when they were new. I always thought it meant Super Utility. I know of guys looking for one for use and as a collectible. Lots of power in a handy package. Remember one guy who said he was "spinning the wheels pulling 3-16s" The guys saying Special Utility are probably right.

The short version is the 4600SU has the engine and drivetrain of a 4600 and the front cowl, front axle, steering box & linkage and front & rear tire equipment of a 3600. It would have the inboard wet brakes, independent PTO and rear frame mounted hydraulic pump of the 4600, and the double drop, dual drag link steering of the 3600 instead of the single-drop, single draglink of the 4600. Not sure what SU really means, probably something like 'Special Utility'.

Hardly!! The SU models are junk in my opinion. The steering and front axle will be your major headache. It's nothing more than a 4600 with a cheap front end thrown onto it.

If I'm not mistaken the SU stood for special utility. A neighbor of mine had a 4000 SU, and I always thought it was a great tractor. It had a little more power than my 3000 which was good for baling, but it was still the same handy size. Great tractors.
