3000 diff lock doesn't.. why?

I've been doing dirt work with my UK 3000 Diesel, and quite often have had to use the diff lock to keep going in the loose dirt. Today I noticed it wasn't making any difference whether I had the pedal down or not.. All linkage looks fine.
Anyone want to take an educated guess what went wrong? I really could use the traction again!
Thanks!

If yours is like mine there is a spring shock absorber type thing in the linkage between the pedal and the shift rod. My spring does not have enough oompf to pull down the lever on the rod.
try stepping on the lever that is attached to the rod and see if you can get it to lock that way.
I havent fixed mine yet but was thinking of getting a new stronger spring or replacing it with a solid piece of linkage.

Yup, got the springie thing, and yes, it kinda feels like I'm pushing down on jello, so maybe the spring gave up the ghost..I did notice it stretching a lot, but thought maybe it was waiting for parts to line up before it engaged.
Thanks!
