Well, just finished ring, bearings and head job on 1960 641 gas. Set initial timing and she fired right up, has miss and it turns out that #1 cyl is not firing. Induction timing light indicates fire on all other cylinders. I have replaced plugs and plug wires. I have continuity from #1 cyl contact inside distributor cap all the way to sparkplug center electrode. The only thing I can think of is to replace dist. cap/and rotor as there is evidence of rotor chewing up the cap contacts. Any one have any other ideas?? Thanks in advance.

It is possible that there is a "carbon track" in the distributor cap. Using a device to measure continuity that provides a small current wouldn't find it. But high-voltage finds it just fine. A new dist cap is in order. From your description a new rotor is also in order. Also, is the rotor tearing-up the dist cap because they are old? Or is there some tolerance problem?

Drew, thanks for response. The dist. cap and rotor are both old. I don't know why the rotor would be chewing the dist. contacts as the dist. shaft is tight and rotor clip and rotor are (appear) tight enough. But I agree with you, these get replaced! Thanks .
