Have a 1974 4000 Ford diesel that ran good during the summer but doesn't seem to have much power now.
Acts like it is running on 2 cyls. Repaired a leak on one of the injector lines.
This is my first diesel and don't know much about them, but will have to learn. This tractor sits around quite a bit.
Any help will be appreciated.

I have a similar problem. One cyl is putting out less power. It makes for hard starting. I isolated the cyl. by cracking open each fuel line, one at time, while the engine is running. You will hear the engine die down significantly on the good cylinders and only slightly or none at all at the bad cyl. I was told to look into a injector cleaning or a rebuilding, of the possible bad injector, by a shop specializing in injectors. I tried the diesel injector cleaners that you add to your fuel and they did nothing. I had already checked my valve lash clearances. You can also try a compression test. If it ran well just a few months ago chances are your engine is in good condition otherwise. You didn't mention allot of smoke, etc.
