Re: FORD 700 in reply to B. KEAN, 12-13-2000 20:49:54
A friend was looking to buy one and we were curious about production numbers. I sent an email to Dan Dibben (author of the Vintage Ford Tractor Resource) and asked him. He's done a lot more research into this stuff than I ever will. As I recall, his reply said that the 700 was only built in 1957 before being replaced by the 701 series and it was only offered in one configuration, the 740 which had the 4 speed trans, 3ph, and non-live pto. Actual production numbers are a mystery as that info has been lost for many years, but it is generally considered to be a rare piece. Value largely be a matter of condition, but it's scarcity should make it worth more than, say, a 640 in comparable condition (in my opinion). Are you looking to buy or sell?
