I have a early 3000 that pukes the power steering fluid out the vent on the reservior. Any body got any ideas? This only happens at higher RPMs and not all the time.

I've got a '65 model 4400 with the same problem. It may be a different system than the 3000's though. The PS system on mine is like the one described for the 5000 in my Ford service manual(s). It has a separate resevoir and the power cylinder is below the radiator, with the control valve mounted on top of the power cylinder. The lines going to/from the power cylinder come out the sides of it, so I guess it's real hard to get all the air out. Mine seems to continually "make" air, especially at higher RPM's. There are no leaks evident, running or not. I've just flushed it for the second time and replaced the filter, but it still "made" air for at least an hour. I can let it idle after bleeding it for so long and it quits "making air", but when I rev it back up, the air justs boils out of the return line from the power cylinder, to the point where the oil is foamy white. I bring it back to idle and let it sit for a while and the fluid clears back up. I've posted this problem before but the only responses I've gotten are water or filter related, both of which are not the case. I'm not a novice mechanic, but this kind of has me stumped. The only thing I can figure is that it's just a real hard system to get the air out of, like a Chevy or Ford Ranger hydraulic clutch. Maybe somebody else has a better explanation?

Jack

Power steering may be altogether different, but I recently had a similar sounding problem with the hydraulics on my 3500. It turned out to be a loose connection at the inlet side of the pump. It never leaked a drop, running or not, but it would suck air and make foam whenever it ran. And the pump would whine something awful.
