I receintly purchased a 1962 ford 801 powermaster
fully restored for around 4500.00. So far the tractor has been a great asset, however I don't know a whole lot about it. I am curious about the amount of horse power it has and any other helpful hints you may have.
Thanks,I look forward to your comments. Allen

That's a nice tractor. I have a 641. The 641 has 134 CID motor rather than the 172 CID motor that you have.

If possible, store it in a shed. Also, I always leave the hood open on mine when not running. That way the wild cats keep the mice company :)

Good luck.

Sounds like a nice tractor. The 800-801 series is about 45hp. As for hints, remember to turn off the gas (valve on bottom of tank) so that if your carb float has a problem, you won't fill the engine with gas. Those gravity fed systems can be a disaster if there is a problem in the carb. Also, mine will flood out if you have the choke on more than just a second or two while starting. Finally, note that there are several places for fluids. The engine, transmission, hydraulics, and rear end, all have their own separate cavities. GET A MANUAL! The IT Manual is used by many and is available at most farm type stores. Have fun...

Just remember that on the 800 series you need to shut off the fuel valve with a screwdriver as there isn't room for a valve you can turn with yur fingers. It's a pain.

I prefer the reprint of the factory Ford manual to the I&T...I have both manuals and the Ford reprint just has more info. I got mine from Ebay for about $15 ($18 with postage). Just type in "ford tractor manual" in the ebay search box and you'll find lots of them. As for more info on the tractor I recommend the Vintage Ford Tractor Resource. Enjoy it!

TWW is correct. Spend some money and buy a manual. Also, you may not know how far the restoration went, so I would replace all fluids unless you know the tractor was completely dis-assembled. Have fun and don't roll it over!:-)
