Where can I get a manual transmission to replace my Selectomatic transmission? I believe I need the rear end also because of the conversion required.

Ford Tractor made 4000 Selectospeeds in two families 1963 and 1964 with four cylinder 172 cubic inch engines in the 800, 801 family; and from 1965 on with 3 cylinder 201 cubic inch engines. Manual transmissions have been installed to replace Selectospeeds in both families. You cannot install pre 65 components in post 65 tractors, bolt circles are different but you can exchange manual and Selectospeed transmissions within the same family of tractors.

Alexander Tractor Salvage, Winnsboro TX used to supply parts necessary to exchange transmissions; don't know if they still do.

Problems:
- Different flywheels, clutch and pressure plate are required. - Selectospeed has wet PTO clutchpack inside transmission. pre'65 4000 with manual trans. uses a double clutch, post 65 uses a wet pto clutch pack in the rear axle or a manual shift (sliding shift collar) PTO.

Bottom line, it might be cheaper to part-out the 4000.....

Hi Bill , Where are you located ? I live in Mass. I have complete transmission change overs if you are interested. The rear end assembly does not need to be changed they are both the same .Do you have the serial number and the model number of your tractor . Thanks Tony Jacobs

I live in Oregon, the tractor is in Washington. I'll have to get back to you on the serial number.

A Ford shop told me I might as well buy the whole tranny and rearend, as the conversion kit needed is cheaper to get with the whole thing. I took the tractor apart at my bro-in-law's shop because of a leak. Many bearings are shot, and I suspect more damage will be found farther in, so I'm ready to go manual.

Bill

I've been wondering if the standart transmission from an 801 would fit in a 3000. And,
whether the rear end needs to go with the standard
transmission. I look forward to information from readers of this site. Paul

Hi Paul, The trans and rear end from your 801 series tractor will not fit in the newer series tractors after 1965 . The bolt pattern is completely changed from the earlier series . Thanks Tony Jacobs
