Just picked up a new set of rings for my '74 2000 3-cyl gas from my NH dealer. I notice that the replacement oil scraper ring uses a "spring" type expander (fits in land under actual oil scraper ring) vice the "hump" type expander of the original oil scraper ring I removed. Is this merely a design change/improvement that's occured over the years or do I have the wrong set of rings? Thanx!

No problem, unless things don't fit right. I have seen that type of expander as well as other types for the same engine. Depends on the manufacturer of the ring. Just make sure you follow the instructions on installation and stagger the ends between the 3 pieces, and check the end gaps on the scraper rings. My $.02

Thanx Tim. This is the third time you've helped me on this rebuild.
