Replace the battery.

Drain as much of the fuel as possible from tank, lines, filter; replace the fuel filter. Put in some fresh fuel; use some diesel fuel conditioner for the first few tanks of fuel.

Change the engine oil and filter. Replace the coolant.

Bleed the air from the fuel system. Loosen the high pressure injector lines at the injector nozzles, move throttle to fast and crank the engine till new fuel is pumped through the system. Reduce throttle to half, tighten the injector lines and try to start the tractor.

If you can't get fuel to flow to the nozzles, the rack in the injection pump may be stuck in the shut off position; rapidly moving the throttle lever from idle to full speed may free it. You might need a mechanic who understands injection pumps to remove the side cover and free the rack.

Most likely the clutch will be frozen to the flywheel. It may be necessary to split the tractor and remove the clutch pressure plate to free the clutch disc from the flywheel. A wood block was provided with the tractor to insert so it held the clutch pedal depressed during long term storage. If it was in place, the clutch may be OK.

Replace the transmission rear axle oil.

thanks for the help Texadian. i'm moving to the 16 acers this week and will start work on the tractor next week. i'm looking forward to the project now that i know what to expect
I'm curious what you think of the 1710, is it a good tractor to have , is it dificult to operate or work on, and are accessories such as a tiller or posthole digger available for it . sorry for all the questions,i'm a carpenter/woodworker by trade and a decent mechanic but i'v never been around tractors before.I plan on putting in fruit trees and a large garden on my new place.we are very excited . thanks again for all the help

STEVE, I HAVE OWNED A 1710 TRACTOR FOR SEVERAL YEARS AND HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH IT. I`VE USED IT FOR BUSH HOGGING, BLADE WORK AND PLOWING. I LOVE IT. USE THE FORD 134 OIL IN THE TRANSMISSION AND REAR END AND THE FRONT IF IT HAS 4 WHEEL DRIVE. USE A GOOD GRADE OF DIESEL OIL IN THE ENGINE SUCH A SHELL ROTELLA T, 15-40 WT WHICH CAN BE BOUGHT AT WALL MART. CHANGE THE HYDROLIC FILTER AND USE OFF ROAD DIESEL IF IT IS AVAILABLE. IF NOT USE A DIESEL CONDITIONER WITH LUBRICATING ADDIATIVE IN IT. ENJOY
