One of the digits in my serial number was overstamped. I do not know which is correct. It is either serial 110000 or 111000. Is there someplace else on the tractor that I might find a number? Alan

Oh yeah....an 860.

There isn't anywhere else on the tractor where the serial number is located. Looks like Homer Simpson was stamping serial numbers that day (D'OH!). From the valid range of numbers for that year, yours could be either one. I'm sure a team of forensic scientists could conduct tests to determine which number got struck over the other, but in the long run it probably doesn't really matter. Another thing you could do is find someone with a tractor that has a serial number between 110000 and 111000. Compare date codes on yours vs his to see which one predates the other. Date codes can usually be found on top of the radiator, on the carb brass tag, and on the axle trumpets. I believe there are also date codes on the engine block and transmission case, but I've never been able to find mine.

I looked it up and it shows the 57' model 860 should be between the numbers of 77,271-116,368. Also I read your post below and yes some of the late 57 860's did have powermaster on the side of the hood. I have an original magazine add from Sept of 57 showing a 860 with powermaster on the hood but it didnt have the look of the 801s.If I am wrong on this stuff someone will let you know. These guys that use this board are very knowledgeable.

Steve, Are you sure about the serial number? I reread the serial number info on this site and it indicates to me that 110000 would still be a 56?
Am I looking at this incorrectly?

I read it the same way as you, Alan. I also checked the Vintage Ford Tractor Resource. Beginning serial number for 1957 is listed as 116368. That means your tractor is a 1956 regardless of whether your number is 110000 or 111000.
