8N Color vs 860 Color

I recently purchased red and gray paint that is correct for an 8N. Is this also correct for the 860? The red seems too orange and the gray too light compared to the places on the tractor I found good paint that had not been exposed to UV.
Has anyone run into this? Does paint get darker as it gets older? I always thought the opposite.

New Holland sells the red/orange and the gray/tan that came out in 1958. Before the color was light gray without tan and dark red. Most tractors have been repainted the new colors over the years and it has been accepted very well. Your dealer has the air cleaner decal and drawbar decal for the 8N and the model 800 hood decal and the other ones in a set (APN650B)

Scott, So you are saying that the 8N and the 860 are the same color? That prior to 1958 the red was red/red and the gray had no tan?

On the 801 series, the hood door should be red. The sheetmetal was all gray on the earlier 800 series.

Jim, You say that in 58 the red became more orange and the gray much lighter. Isn't that backwards? The earlier machines were orange/red and white/gray and then they became redder and darker gray?

That depends, if you are going to all the work and expense of doing a good paint job on a Ford and aren't absolutely sure you are going to die while it is still in your garage, then I think it is smarter to paint it the correct colors. If how ever, one is just slopping on some paint over the rust and grease then purple would be good.

Agreed. If you are concerned about general approval and/or resale value, the correct colors (or something at least close) would be the best. That's what I'll do when and if I get to the restoration stage. However, this being America, I still say if it's your tractor you can paint it whatever color warms your heart.

Wayne, You comment on the 8N vs 801. Does this apply to the 800 series?
