I have a 1958 Ford diesel with no sleeves. The cylinders had .020 pistons that rocked pretty good L to R. The bottom of the piston skirts augered a groove into the cylinders. Honing would not remove the groove and leave a cylinder small enough for a new piston, it would be too over bored. We decided to bore it out and install sleeves upping the 144 cid to a 172 cid. Over 50% of the cylinder walls are gone now. What is every one's professional opinion? Will these now wet sleeves work? The sleeves are plenty thick. Fred

I dont think you can use a wet sleeve in that engine. If you bore the cylinder thru into the water jacket you are not going to have enough strength or support to hold the top of the block to the lower part of the block. The oroginal cylinder liners tie the top to the botton and if you bore that completely out I think it will blow the head off or blow the crankshaft out the bottom. The engines designed for wet sleeves have much more support made inside the water jacket to take care of that problem.

If'n ya don't crack the block when you install them, an if'n they don't leak, and if'n there is still enough room around the water jackets, and if'n the bigger piston don't interfere with parts of the lower end, sure, it'll work. Can't see why not. My $.02
