Hi Bob, According to all the Ford manuals that I have the trans and the rear end take 80-90 gear oil and the hydraulic system take the 134 oil , Ford Dealers may reccomend it now but when the tractors were new they used gear oil and that's what they were designed to use . I been doing equipment repair over 20 years now and I go by what the machined was designed for when it was new . Sorry Fred but I don't know what manuals you are reading but they are wrong . Thanks Tony Jacobs

Well Tony, I guess you are right. After checking around I found out everyone is still using leaded gas in their old tractors and me and all of the Ford mechanics are wrong.

Well Fred , I don't know what Manuals you are reading but there are not Ford ones as I have the original ones when these tractors were built and the new Ford reprints and they specify 80W-90 GEAR OIL , a dealer may SAY 134 hydraulic oil but the MANUFACTURER DOES NOT . Machine shop practices 40 yrs ago were very different than today , tolerences were not as tight as today that's why they run in Gear oil then and the new ones don't , if that's not good enough for you you should do some research on your own , and it does not make any difference to brand name either . Thanks Tony

Bob, according to the manuals and Ford dealers, use 134 in all three. That is what I do for my 8n, 841, 2000 and 651 diesel. Works fine for me.
