This weekend, I will be changing my 601 to 12 volt. I am using a one wire alternator. I am not sure how to wire the idiot light so it will work on 12 volt. Any ideas?? Thanks to all that answer.

Gib get Tommy D. article and read it over good helped me a lot and Dell has good points to the only thing I did different whose MACK a smaller pulley sow I don’t have to rev the engine to get it to start charging and installed Dell’s Hot Roding coil the 2 inch pulley you don’t knead it and most don’t recommend it do to short belt life but I haven’t had that problem Rod MI

Gib,

See the archives. I did this exact conversion on my 1964 4000, which is a re-painted 861. It has a wire by wire description I wrote as I did it. I second the 12 volt coil too. Inexpensive, and you don't have to mess with those resistors!

Also, go to>Link

Keep your 6 volt stuff too. Your great-great grandkids may want to restore her to pull floats in the Christmas Parade (hee hee).

Good Luck!

Gib..... ...a 1-wire alternator conversion does NOT require the idiot light scheme.

While a 1-wire alternator conversion is very seductive, they're really not that great on slow turning tractor engines. Which is why I recommend the 3-wire 12 volt Delco 10SI conversion.

I also would recommend a real 12 volt ignition coil. Sometimes called "Hot-Rod" coils. Makes for a cleaner conversion by not having any 12-6 volt converting resistors to muck around with..... ..Dell
