6610 starting problem

My stepdads 6610 diesel does not spin fast enough.
Even with a new rebuild on the starter and a new
1000 amp battery, it barely grunts. Even additional jumpers from my truck does no good.
I think the starter motor is just too small for
that tractor. Any ideas?

If you determine it is your starter get a new one from New Holland because a rebuilt one isn't much less, part# D8NN11000CE.

Sounds like you have a problem with excessive resistance somewhere. Possible areas include the battery cables themselves, internal contacts in the starter solenoid, and even the ground stud at the end of the starter. All of these possible problem areas can be easily checked by performing a voltage drop test at each suspect area.

I'd start by making sure the batery cables are OK and the terminals are clean. The lower end of the ground cable often is a problem.
