Haybines/mowers/balers for Ford 3000? Need advice.

I have a 1966 Ford 3000 tractor rated 39 HP from a recent shop tune up.

I've always wondered if there might be a make of haybine or mower/conditioner or hay baler that could work with this horsepower, but I assume it's too low for any standard make. But I don't really know.

Any advice or suggestions would be most appreciated.

Andrew; My "big" tractor is a 3600, basicly a newer version of your 3000. I run a IH 990 7' MoCo and bale on wagons using a NH 268 baler with no trouble. I have a friend that runs a NH472 moco and Ford 532(?) baler behind a 1710 compact and I think its only 25 Hp. If you stay away from disk mowers and round balers you should have no trouble making hay with your 3000. Good luck. Roy

Andrew, I make around 60 acres of hay with a 2000 ford. I use a duetz fahr 5.5 ft. drum mower and bale wiyh a hesston 830 round baler.Niether of these require large hp.tractors.I used to use n.h.467 haybine but after trying the drum mower I'll never go back.It will mow as fast as you want, never clog , takes 5 min.to replace every blade, and cost about half the price of a haybine. The only drawback is that you will need a crusher to make stemmy hay(sudan, soybeans, etc.)But even including the price of a used crusher you still wont spend as much money as a haybine cost.Vicon makes adrum mower for around 4000.oo And agro(zetor)has one as well. The duetz model is getting hard to find.My baler will bale a 500-600lb bale and requires only 30 hp. good luck,Chad S.

I used a 3000 on a New Holland 469, 30 years ago. It was ok, could not go real fast. Our 5000 diesel at 54 HP was better suited. The 3000 was more nimble with PS. So if it was less than 9 feet it would be ok. Be careful on real steep hill.

We baled with a JD 14T with NAA, Ferguson 30, Ford 851, and Ford 5000. The 851 and 5000 were the only rigs we would use on steep ground with a wagon. Would not put more than 100 bales with the 851, 130-140 with the 5000.

Personally I did not really care for the 3000. I used it to rake hay, chase wagons, and pull a 6' ford combine (w/engine). I thought it was geared too fast. It needed a power shift transmission. Again with the ps it was great for raking and the combine.

Andy, I got a 861D about the same HP and general size and weight as your 3000. I pull a 488 NH haybine as fast as I want to ride the tractor, uphill, downhill anywhere. I have used it to pull a 276 NH square baler& pull a wagon behind again no probelem, it won't pull my rd baler though a 852 NH just to much. I did know a fella who pulled a smaller rd baler with a 4cyl 4000 Ford about the same size as your 3cyl 3000, it was about a 800# bale size, hope that gives you some ideas, good luck& be careful regards John IN.

I do all of my personal haying with a '68 2000. I have been using a 501 sickle bar mower but have just purchased a 1207 JD MoCo that I am going to try. Doesn't seem like it will load it too heavy. I pull a New Holland 55 Rolabar rake and that is no challenge. I use a Ford 530 baler and drop the bales on the ground. It can flat bale some hay. I don't think I have enough tractor to pull a wagon up and down hills but level ground doesn't seem like it would be that bad. I just don't own a wagon. LOL I grew up in the western part of the NC Mountains and a Ford 3000 was a big tractor then and a Ford baler was used in some very rough areas that were steep and tight.

So in my opinion Yes you can make hay with the 3000

The guy I bought my 3000 from used it with a GEHL 7 fy haybine and a New Holland small square bailer. It worked fine with both implements. He dropped bales on ground. Tractor might not be heavy enough to pull baler and wagon up steep hills.
