3 cyl. 3000 governor ...

Just rebuilt the carb on a 3 cyl. 3000. Now the governor seems to be sticking - the throttle lever linkage works smoothly, but she runs either at a dead idle or at full speed. I have to move the throttle lever quite a ways open for the governor to pick up engine speed - and then it's wide open.

What am I missing? Thanks.

I imagine that on most linkages the governor can be disconnected so the throttle can be operated by hand on the carb. Working the throttle through its range would be a check for normal operation of the carb. In that case, the governor would be very suspect. However, I don't think it's all that uncommon for governors to stick and result in what you describe. I haven't read specific maintenance routines for governors, but some lubrication on the weight pivots and linkage in general might improve things.
