Were all the 4000's selecto-speeds, it seems that all the ones that are for sale have that transmission, i was just wondering if FORD just made that many more of those than the 5 speeds? thanks,

I have an early 4000 that had a SOS trans; it failed & I switched over to an 4 spd manual with H/L range = 8spd. (switched in '99) Had a little difficulty finding the man trans, but there were some around. Several "related" things also needed changing also. I now have a SOS trans in peices (lots of good parts) I'm looking to dispose of.

Bill, does your tranny have two levers on top or is it a 4 speed with an aux. tranny in front of it? If it has the two levers on top you must have a 65 or later one as I have never heard of a 62 to 64 older style 4000 that had the 8 speed in it. Just curious Greg NE

Two levers on top; no aux trans. One lever for hi/lo range; other for 1-4 gears
540 rpm PTO

Bill, thanks you must have what they usually call the newer 4000 that is all blue except for the fenders and the rims and the stripe on the side of the hood. The 62 through 64 4000s look like the 600 and 800 series tin. Just wanted to see if there was a hybrid one off that was running around somewhere. Thanks Greg NE
