I have a 72 3000 gas with 8spd trans & I'm considering buying a 3pt pto tiller. Does anybody have any recommendations of a size or brand. I spoke with my local Newholland Dealer & he has Land Pride 6ft for about $2,200 & also seen King Kutter at TSC for $1,200. I personally think my tractor doesn't go slow enough for a tiller.Has anybody used a tiller on this model of tractor ? Thanks.

Todd, I've had good luck with my tiller. I have a ford 4000 w/52 hp. But what I do is turn my soil with a bottom row plow then disk it then till it. But use a slip clutch on your tiller to protect from unknown rocks or stumps. It's a good investment for around $100.00. Good luck.

I have used a 72" King Cutter tiller behind a IH504(40hp) and a IH656(60hp). Both did a good job. The toughest soil condition that I have run into is clay with swamp grass/or hay. Typically it requires repeat passes, I am considering purchasing a plow to break it up and then go over with a tiller. Good luck!

I own a '70 3000 gas with the 8 speed and all the other goodies. It is an excellent tractor and a beauty to work with and own. Therefore I would not consider putting a tiller behind it. I would seek a much larger and much heavier model with a heavier tranny and PTO system. Something like a 7000 or larger. I've never owned a tiller, but would think them to be very demanding of the rear components of a tractor.
Best of luck

Todd,
I have a 1961 four speed Ford which pulls a 48" tiller well if the row distance is long enough and I go over it several times. For short distances, the tractor ground speed is too fast and the starting and stopping to maneuver in the short row causes a bit of a mess. I always thought that the 8 speed tractors had a very slow ground speed in low gear.

Forgot to mention: my pto is 540 rpm; I beleive you can buy tillers for 540 or I think about 1100rpm -- important point to remember

I also am looking for a tiller for my approx '60 Super Dexta; I understand it has an engine HP of 35 to 40, although I can't verify this in the books i have. Based on enquiries I've made, a 60" tiller takes about 30HP, soil here is clay/
loam, generally heavy. My tractor is 66" outside rear wheels so I need the side shift feature on a tller; and I figure I must have a slip clutch rather than a shear pin. Tillers here run $2200 - 3500 (Cdn), and apparently used ones are very rare.
Just a few thoughts you may wish to consider

i have a 74 3000 8 speed. i have a 63 inch long tiller the 3000 will handle this tiller with no problem. If i were you i would get a tiller with a differential drive in the center not a chain drive on the end.
