Major leak between piston section and output section, gasket blown??? I have the rebuild kit from NH. Are there any "gotya" that I should look for? I understand to prime this pump just remove the plug from the output section and run pump until steady stream of fluid flows. TIA.

One other question, Do you use gasket sealer on the gaskets within the pump?

Do not use gasket sealer.
Be sure gasket mating surface (especially the pump body) is flat. The six bolts that hold the head on are supposed to be torqued to 45 Lbs-ft.
Often this will pull the metal up around the bolt holes slightly. If you don't clamp the new gasket evenly, it will blow again. You can lap the surface by putting some 240 grit wet/dry emery cloth, rough side up on a good piece of glass and carefully rub the pump mating surface fo the pump body on it, Lubricate with a little brake fluid (rubber gloves). You'll very soon see evidence fo high spots if there are any. You can cut them down quite easily on the emery cloth.

Your overhaul kit may include 12 new balls and 6 new inlet ball seats. There's a special tool to remove the inlet seats and a special driver to replace them. See a New Holland dealer.

The drive shaft seal should also be replaced; the pump can draw air from the engine crankcase and "lose its prime". You'll have to pull a bearing cup to R & R. the seal. There's also a special driver tool to position the new seal at a slightly different depth than the original seal.
