Please note that the following information applies to the 1965 thru 1974 Ford 4000 tractor. I think 5G16 may be a partial production code and can be translated as follows: 5 = Year 1965 G = Month July 16 = 16th day of the month There should also be a letter "A", "B" or "C" at the end of this code, e.g. 5G16A. This letter is the production shift code. A = Midnight, B = Day and C = Evening. On the right side of the tractor just behind the starter there is flat surface on the transmission housing. There will be two threaded holes just below this flat surface. On this flat surface there are three numbers inscribed into the metal. The top number is the tractor model number, second is the production code, and the third is the serial number. I have saw these numbers on many of the "C" prefixed tractors. I have no personal experience with the "B" prefixed tractors, but I believe they should follow the same rules as the "C" prefixed ones. Go look on the tractor again. Try to clean this area to find the codes. It takes time, but it can be done. Please note that this information also exist under the hood panel above the battery on a sticker. Try looking there first. Many of the tractors have lost this sticker or have had them painted over.
