I'm looking at a diesel 3000 and 3600 for general work around the house. Would one be better than the other and why?

3600 is a later version of the 3000. The 3600 has the following improvements over the 3000: dry type air filter, external screw on hydraulic filter and flat top fenders (some). I am sure there are other differences, but this is all I know about.

I don't know much about a 3600, but a 3000 is a solid machine. If you want to do mowing, then a 3000 is plenty enough to handle a 6' mower or hog. The vertical exhaust is a problem getting under trees. Parts are plentiful. I assume that you are looking at a 3 cylinder machine. Good luck.

Not much difference excepting a couple of HP and an alternator instead of a generator.

Hello Fred,my father has a FORD tractor serial# C563217 it origially had a generator. We don't have any knowledge about their differences but just looked up the serial # which states his tractor is a 1978 model,3600. This and many other tractors are repainted and no research done before putting the decals on by tractor jockeys.
I have always been apprehensive that this was actually a 3600. It is a diesel and when the pump was taken in to be checked the tech said the numbers on it identified is as a 4000.
