'67 Ford 3000, 3 cyl. Diesel, 8 speed tranny with dual clutch. Manual states to adjust the PTO clutch tractor must be split. Can the adjustment be made, with out spliting the tractor, by removing the steering colum assembly to tranny housing? Thanks, this site is great!

Yes, you can adjust the double clutch without splitting the tractor. Remove the hood and the steering column. The double clutch is visible and accessible through a large hole under the steering column. All three fingers need to be adjusted per the manual (i.e., .05 to .054"). Be careful when you spin the engine/clutch assembly to get to the fingers. I just did this to my 3000 and it now works perfectly. Good luck.

David. The problem, with clutch pushed all the way down, low RPM, the PTO gears grind when trying to engage the PTO. If I drop RPM's quickly to almost engine stall then it will engage a little easier. But still that's not normal. Have adjusted the external linkage per manual.(1 3/4-21/4 free travel after adjustment with pedal all the way down PTO still turns. Tractor does not stop with pedal half way down but stops when pushed completely down.

Your advice is appreciated.

I hope you know there is a way to change the 2 stage clutch to single stage when not using PTO. Could someone have set yours to single operation ? I believe it is an easy change. Might be worth a look.

RWK: I do not know of a change. Tractor is third gen of owner. You spoke of easy change and checking. How is the change and check made? Thanks

Nope. If the clutch has to be adjusted, you will have to split it since you will have three fingers that will have to be shimmed and adjusted for proper clearance with a no. 51 drill bit. Then all finger will have to be adjusted to contact the thrust (throw-out) bearing at the same time within .010". This is usually a precedure done during first time installation. I am not sure why you would need to adjust it after installation. You have a linkage from the clutch pedal to the rocker that you can adjust after installation as the clutch gets worn. What exactly is your problem with the PTO clutch?

My Ford 3000 has to be shut down to turn the power take-off lever on or it grinds. Is adjustment possible? Thanks
