I need to put a new o-ring kit in my lift cylinder. (861 Gas) I can do most mechanical work but is there some things to watch out for when doing this job? I never had a top cover off before, so any suggestions or comments or do's and don'ts would be greatly appreciated before I attempt this job.
Many thanks
Arny

having bee through this on my 860 (gas) I was pleasantly supprised as to how easy it was. First I bought the Hydraulic video off this site and found it very informative.

To open the cover:

1) Diconnect the two lift arms. Leave the center arm connected.
2) Undo the bolts around the edge.
3) Lift! It is a bit heavy and aukward, but with the center arm connected, it is manageable by one person. The hydraulic (pressure and return) lines are in the outter edge and there are two o-rings.

That will get the unit open and ready to work on.

Good Luck

The lift cover is a little more awkward to put back, due to its weight and need to keep the O-rings in place. A little light grease on the o-rings may help them to stay put and a second person when you put it back is definitely helpful. Only remove the outer bolts.

There is one rubber O-ring and one leather backup washer. I just reinstalled the lift on my 640 sat. Be careful to watch the orientation of the O-ring and backup washer. the o-ring faces toward the pressurized oil and the backup washer faces away from the pressurized oil. I purchased the Kit from Zane which included a cam follower pin and color photos of what things should look like. My cam follower pin was about 40% worn through. Punching it out was the hardest part of the repair. Zane's kit also includes an adjustment tool that makes adjusting the linkage a piece of cake!

I forgot to mention that in order to get the backup washer on, you need to boil it for a few minutes to soften it up so it will stretch enough to fit over the ram piston. If you don't boil it, the leather will probably tear and you'll have to buy another one

Many thanks. I did buy a complete o-ring kit, but it did not include a backup washer or pin. I will check mine out first and order these parts if needed. That is if they are sold Separately. If not I may ask you for the kit number you purchased from Zane.
Thanks again.
