I am looking at a 5000 Ford with the "Select-O-Matic" transmission. It is apart because of a locked up motor. I was wandering what years were these made? I never saw one like this, I've always seen the ones with a standard transmission.I hope someone can tell me where the serial number is located. The block is not under the shelter with the rest of the tractor,it's put up somewhere else. Any help is greatly appreciated. Barney

I have 69 5000 Dsl SOS...5000 was made 64-75,believe all yrs were available with SOS tranny.numbers,ser/model/trans/diff located on underhood sticker on mine, above battery with hood open.5000 was 4cyl,not 3 cyl like 2000-4000.Problems with early SOS trannys may have caused limited demand by this time.No problems with mine.My Dad had new 69 5000 Dsl 8spd when I was younger...Great strong tractors.

others would have been 8spd(4x2)

Mr. Joe K is right, the serial number should be on a small thin aluminum decal under the hood, however these are often lost or unreadable. Like all 1965 and newer 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000, 7000 tractors, the serial number (a letter (usually C) followed by six digits) is stamped into the top of the transmission housing behind the starter. Also at this location should be a manufacturing date code. 5000;s were made from 64 to 75 but the Selectospeed transmission production was stopped in 72 or 73.
