... from the Steering Shaft Housing.

Question - is there suppose to be fulid in this shaft? Is there fluid above the value adapter.

I wrongly attempted to remove the Steering wheel with a hammer. Now i have a leak from the shaft housing. the leak is where. it looks like, two pieces join together - but i can't seem to get them apart. there is a seal at the end of the housing - it really doesn't look that bad, but could leak when under presure.

Thanka for any help or insights.

Alex

Alex, there should not be any fluid in the steering column. There is an oil seal inside the base of the column where it bolts to the spool valve housing. There is also an o ring between the column and the valve housing. My guess is that your leak is in the oil seal and that is letting fluid come up through the column. Not a big job to replace but you need to remove the sheet metal and the steering wheel. While it's apart you might as well replace the o ring also.

Alex, once you get the steering column off and separated from the valve housing you should be able to either pick the old seal out or tap it out from the top of the steering column. I believe I used a screwdriver to bend it in on one side so I could get old of it and pull it out. The bushing at the top of the steering column is not a seal of any kind. If I can do it it's not a big job, believe me.
