I am trying to figure out the x01 serial number type as it relates to 621, 821, 841 etc.

Are the x01 serial number referencing relate to the 621, 821, 841 tractors?

When did the "x21" tractors appear?

thank you.

In 1958 (production starting in late '57) Ford upgraded their "Hundred" series tractors (600,700,800,900) to what we here like to call the "x01" series'. The 600 series became the 601, 700 became 701, etc. Within each of these series were several models. A 601 could be a 621, 631, 641, 651, 661, or starting in '59, a 671 or 681. Each model number calls out a different set of equipment, transmission, pto configuation, etc. Here's a site to help straighten it all out. Be sure to click on the serial number button after reading the history pages.

I have read conflicting info about the x21 tractors. One source says it had a 4 speed trans while other sources say it had a 5 speed. What does yours have?

Hi Jim, While it is not set in stone most all 620's and 820's were five speed tractors, and most all 621's and 821's were four speed tractors , one reason was after the 01 series came out with more power the four speed was the choice for durability , that's why you will never see a factory 1801 series tractor with a five speed and a very limited amount of 01 series light industrials with a five speed and probably never with a backhoe from the factory . Thanks Tony
