My '62 4000 did a similar thing and it turned out to be the plug wires. Get a continuity tester (TSC had them for $1.99 recently) and check your wires. Don't do what I did and replace points, condenser, coil, etc. before checking them.

I have got the points & condenser in it but my coil says it is resistorless so before i try it i need to put a ballast or resistor in line to keep from burning the points up I will give this a few months then spend the money & put eletronic module back in it when I work all the bugs out of it THANK YOU GUYS FOR ALL YOUR ASSISTANCE DON FROM NC

Hi Don,
I've got a 63 4000 with the stock 6 volt setup, as I haven't had a lick of trouble with it and the engine usually starts before making two revolutions, I think I'll leave well enough alone. You might be able to pick up a new distrubitor (I don't think you'll find anyone willing to remove just the plate from a good used distrubitor)from the supplier listed on the left side of this page.

You might find someone who converted their tractor to 12 volt and get a breaker plate from them, maybe Tommy D. could furnish one. Good luck

Mike

Don,

I have a 1964 4000 (Model 41202) with a 12v conversion and the Genessee Electronic Ignition you have. It was the best thing I ever did when I added the Electronic Ignition. I would encourage you to look at other things that might cause your problems and keep the "point-less" ignition.

These tractors are notorious for carb problems. Even plugs & wires could cause this.

Just my opinion,
Tommy D.

ALL FIXED it was the coil that burned up the electronic module it had a internal short which was giving the module 40,000 volts. so I went to the auto parts store and pinked one up for $16 with resistor built in runs the best since I bought it a month ago. thanks guys, DON
