The hydraulic pump on my NAA is about ready for an overhaul and I'm wondering if any specialized tools are required to do this job. It's a piston type pump and I've never been inside one. thanks in advance for the help!

There is a special tool to remove and install the seats(take to an old dealer)and you can find a bent tool to punch out the cup at the front to replace the seal. The kit, gasket and bearing cup are available from your New Holland dealer.

I recently finished overhauling mine and no there are no special tools required.

What you undo the 6 bolts at the one end (the other end has a single bolt and the attachement for the proof-o-meter), you will encounter 6 springs. There are a total of 18 springs (3 sets of 6). Two of those sets are very small so be careful you don't loose any.

Once you have the pump in two halves (the four bolts on the sides) there is a bolt in the hole where the Proof-o-meter connects, remove that and with a punch, drive out the shaft. Check the shaft for grooves. That was the problem with mine. There is a video available from this site that is really good. Covers the entire system including the pump.

Good luck

If you plan on removing the seats where the balls set you will need a special tool to remove them. The tool looks similar to a blind hole puller as it has a very small ball on the end that goes through the seat expands and then removes the seat. The rest of the pump you do not need any special tools. I have the puller but not the installer and I use a 1/4 inch drive deep socket that is the same outside diameter as the seat.
