Hi Ben. Cracked blocks and heads can be repaired. Some cracks can be repaired with an overlapping series of special tapered plugs. Depending on where the crack is located, brazing may also be a possibility. The best repair is welding. The part is heated in a furnace to a dull red and gas welded with iron rod & special flux. The part is then re-heated & slowly cooled. At that point all critical surfaces must be re-machined. There are very few people capable of welding iron blocks and heads properly. Unless a part is irreplaceable or extremely valuable the cost of repair usually exceeds the cost for a replacement. If it must be welded that is definitely going to be the case. If I were you I'd be looking for a good used casting. Sorry to give you bad news.....Al English
