Dave, Hold the starter button in and wiggle the shifter. I have a 1963 ford 2000 and sometimes it is tempermental about starting.

Dave,
Is there any sort of safety interlock? Sometimes those will hang up, sometimes the selonid will also, even if fairly new, I tap mine with my pocket knife (even though the hijacking dangers are outragous) and it kicks over. Learned that on a 50 Ford many years back and it still works today. Good luck.
Mike

Dave, my 861 did the same thing the other day. Could find no problem until I loosened and slid back the band that covers the brushes on the starter. Brushes looked pretty good, but I did note that the communtator was looking as it needed some service. I rolled the armature (the part that turns) ever so slightly, tried the starter button again, and she fired right up. I haven't done it yet, but I know the starter needs to be taken off and cleaned/dressed up. Just need more time. Dan Robertson
