Look under the left footrest. There should be a plate there with serial numbers, a model number, and a unit number. The unit number goes as follows:
The first number is the last digit of the year it was built (These were built from 1987-1996, I think), the letter following is the month (A=Jan, B=Feb etc.), the two numbers following are the day of the month, the letter following is the shift.

Price will vary depending on general condition, number of hours, and whether it has the (optional) live PTO. Probably in the $9000-12000 range. Where are you located? I might be interested.

I am also interested in a 1720 4WD with gear and will put a chesper than NH loader on it. Any loader suggestions?
Also have you heard if this 1720 series has had issues runnig tillers. One dealer said watch for PTO gear teeth problems from Tiller usage.

Alos where can I find a site with all the specs for the 1720?
Many thanks...Charlie
