Hi All,
New guy here... Would like some help IDing and old tractor I believe to be an 800, based on grill and faded number on side. It's an OHV 4 cyl.
The tractor has been sitting outside for some time (years?) weeds are up past the rear axles. In the next week or so I am going to try and see if the tractor will start. I just ordered a couple of Ford Tractor books, but until they arrive I was hoping that someone might know... anything in particular with these old rigs that I should be concerned about before I try and fire it up? Like: is it a negative or positive ground? 6v or 12V ??? (Battery is gone.) Where would I look for the serial number(s). Etc., etc...

Thanks much,

64K10

From the factory they were 6V positive ground on the gas models and 12V negative ground on the diesels. Many of the old 6V tractors have been converted in the intervening 45 years to 12V. Does it have a generator or an alternator? Here's a site to help you find and decipher the model and serial numbers.

Jim, thanks for the reply! It's got a generator, which leaves me to believe it is still a 6v system.
(Yesterday I put a posting under the "Tractor Talk" forum and a fellow recommended that I check over here at the FORD section.) Don't know the running condition yet, but hope to see if it will turn over. Would you have a "ballpark" guess as to what these tractors might be going for? Sheet metal looks to be in fairly good shape.

Thanks,

Please don't just put in a battery and see if it will start. If it's been sitting for years, every friction surface is bone dry. At least pull the plugs out and get a little oil in it.
