I have a 1953 Golden Jubilee and it has a Sherman transmission. Recently the HI-REG-LO went out and we took the tractor to a repair place that specializes in old Ford tractors. The guy says he doesnt work on the Sherman trans. So he fixed the thing by taking out the HI-REG-LO gears and now the tractor just has four forward gears. The tractor moves kinda fast in first gear. My question is..... Is there anything that can be done to change this without spenting a lot of money.....PLEASE ANY HELP .....Thanks BRYAN

I am looking at a 1953 Ford NAA Golden Jubilee.
The owner says the clutch plate is stuck to the flywheel. I this a difficult thing to fix? How expensive?

Thanks

I just had a new clutch put in my Jubilee a few weeks ago along with the gear rack taken out of the Sherman transmission and a shaft to replace the gear rack the cost was about $500.00 parts and labor. I'd say a fair price to replace the clutch would be around 300.00 to 350.00 parts and labor. But that depends on the area you are in and the labor rates there. Labor is the biggest expense anymore. I think I could have done the job but I was in a big hurry so I swallowed the cost. Oh well. Good luck and I hope you do good with your purchase. By the way unless you are stuck on gettin a Jubliee then you might ought to really consider a tractor with a 2 stage clutch. The Jubilee is a nice piece of history and a great looking machine but for the getting down to working it you might re-think for a different make and model.

I hope he gave you the Sherman back for the parts value of it! They are worth 500.00 to 800.00 in value working and 200.00 to 400.00 in parts value. Mark H.

My NAA has numbers embossed on the shifter plate, with second gear being on the bottom left and third gear on the bottom right. I cannot see any marks on the plate for Reverse, 4th or 1st gears, but my owners manual indicates that they are at the top of the shifter plate, and in that exact order, left to right. I thought it was kind of a strange gear order, but it's that exact placement on my machine. The book says that 4th gear speed at 1500 RPM is 9.9 mph, 11.55 mph at 1750 RPM, and a whomping 13.2 mph at 2000 RPM. Quite a difference from the 3.58 (1st gear), 4.6 (2nd), and 6.33 (3rd) at that same 2000RPM.

My tractor has had a modification whereby it has a lever (ahead of the PTO selector lever)out of the left side of the transmission that selects for slow speeds or higher speeds, in effect giving me 8 speeds forward and two speeds reverse. Is this the Sherman transmission that you (and others) are speaking of ?

No, yours is behind the trans., maybe a Howard brand, so it would not change the pto speed which is the best one to have and is very rare, a Sherman is in front of the trans. and are very common but change your pto speed along with the wheel speed.
